This policy covers Simple Film Search on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Android. Last updated October 18, 2026.
I don’t collect any of your data. There’s no account, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. Your library stays on your devices and, if you turn on sync, in your own iCloud or Google Drive.
Your saved and watched films, lists, ratings, dates, and notes are stored on your device. You can export or import them as a CSV file at any time. Nothing leaves your device unless you turn on sync or share or export something yourself.
Searches and film details come from The Movie Database (TMDB). The app fetches them through a small server I run, which forwards each request to TMDB so the app doesn’t need its own TMDB key. It doesn’t keep logs of your searches, and no account or personal identifier is sent with these requests. Posters and other images load directly from TMDB, and trailers open on YouTube. Their own privacy policies apply to those requests.
Sync uses iCloud. Your library is stored in your private iCloud database, which only you can access, and is managed by your Apple Account settings. I can’t see it.
Sync between your Android devices is optional and uses your own Google Drive. When you turn it on, you choose a
Google account and the app asks for access to its own app data folder in that Drive (the
drive.appdata permission). It can only see the files it created there, not the rest of your Drive.
Your library is stored in that folder and is only used to keep your devices in sync. It goes from your device
to your Drive and never to me or anyone else.
Turning sync off stops it and keeps your library on the device. To delete the synced copy, use Delete synced data in the app’s settings, or remove the app’s data under Manage apps in Google Drive’s settings. Your library is not included in Android’s automatic backups.
The app doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes, I’ll update this page and the date above.
